Now that you have increased the car's grip and raised its cornering speeds, you need to stop the car. By now everyone is aware of how bad the stock Mustangs brakes are for racing. At Griggs Racing, we replace the stock brakes with Baer Racing's PBR or Alcon systems (ranging from incredible to painful stopping power starting from around $1,600). The basic system uses PBR's excellent front caliper on a beefy 13x1.1 inch front rotor. Baer's racier stuff includes brake systems that come straight off the Indy-car circuit and offer truly unbelievable deceleration.
Since most 13 inch brakes require 17 inch wheels, we always upgrade to 5 lug SN-95 spindles and hubs at the same time and usually use the 17x9 Cobra R model wheel with a 255/40-17 tire. GR-40 Suspension geometry modifications widen and lengthen a Mustang therefore wheel and tire fitment requires careful planning. We believe so strongly in Ford's SN-95 spindle and hub that we convert every GR-40 Mustang to 5-lug in order to use it.

Cobra R Wheels
Cobra R Wheels Ford's current wheel offering, the 95 Cobra 'R' model wheel is an outstanding match for the GR-40S chassis package. Featuring great looks and production car durability, this cast aluminum 17 inch x 9 inch wheel weighs in at a moderate 22 lbs and is available with offsets to fit for the front and/or rear of any Mustang equipped with one of our brake kits. We recommend 255-40-17 tires for 1979-1993 cars and 275's for 94 and later models. Fenders may require modifications on 79-90 cars for proper tire clearance. Please consult a technician for fitments.
