The real action was in the hotly contested AI class. Saturday's qaulifying was a strong indication of what to expect for the rest of the weekend, with the top 3 spots going to Vageli Karas, Rob Ainscough, and Ernesto Roco. All three driving Griggs Racing GR40 equipped vehicles. In the race Vageli & Rob would post identical fastest lap times, but after 35 minutes of battling it out on the track, Vageli would narrowly edge out Rob for the win. Ernesto finished a strong 3rd, a lap ahead of the remainder of the field.
Ernesto found a little extra speed overnight and put himself on the pole for Sunday's event, relegating Vageli & Rob to the second and third starting positions. Vageli showed his strength early however, taking the lead from Ernesto with an aggressive move and never looking back. Ernesto and Rob diced things up for a good part of the race until Ernesto missed one of the chicanes, short cutting the corner, for which he was assessed a brief penalty. After rejoining the field Ernesto held on to 3rd place, a comfortable 13 seconds ahead of his nearest challenger, finishing as he did on Saturday behind repeat winner Vageli Karas, and runner-up Rob Ainscough.
Congratulations to Ross, Vageli, Rob, & Ernesto for a successful weekend!
