PANHARD BARS & WATTS LINKS

For lateral location of the axle housing we use either a Panhard bar or a Watts Link. '79 to present Mustangs, and '83 to '88 Thunderbirds will use the same parts in this case, and the part # will start with an "M". Early '64 to '73 Mustangs (and Cougars) will start with "EM". The second group of letters will identify the part as a Panhard Bar (PB) or Watts Link (WL). Panhard bars that fit 8.8" rear ends will have part # 1200, and those fitting 9" rear ends will have part # 9200.
Non-adjustable Panhard bars are generally used for the street, and will clear most tailpipes with little or no modification. They will be identified with the suffix "A". Adjustable Panhard bars are usually used for autocross or open track and will not clear any kind of tailpipes. They will have the suffix "R". If it is to be used with an 8.8" rear end with an aluminum cover you will also need to add the suffix "T".
Like the adjustable Panhard bar, a Watts Link will not leave any room for tailpipes. In addition it will require significant modification to the spare tire well, leaving no room for a spare tire. Watts Links also tend to be noisy. For these reasons they are usually only used on race cars.
Watts Links fitting the 8.8" rear end will be numbered 1000, and the ones fitting a 9" numbered 9000. All Watts Links have the suffix "R".
