LOWER CONTROL ARMS
There are many options for rear lower control arms. The most basic is the 4000 series, having polyurethane bushings at both ends of the arm. These arms will give you the most comfortable ride. They are available with spring perches to fit stock, or stock style replacement springs (suffix "S"); and for use with our coil-over system, having no spring perch (suffix "N"). The 4000 series arms fit all Mustangs from '79 to '98, and Thunderbirds from '83 to '88. These arms are designed for the street, and will work for drag racing, but are not intended for road racing. A step up is the 4500 series arms that have a heim joint at the front end, and a polyurethane bushing at the back end. This reduces the roll bind that occurs when cornering, and takes much of the stress off the torque boxes. They are available with the same "S" and "N" suffixes. The 4500 series is available for the same applications as the 4000 series, and also available to fit the '99 and later Mustangs (excluding the Cobra). Ford changed the mounting hardware in '99, and to order the correct part you will need to add "99-" after the "4500". The 2000 series control arms have adjustable spring perches, and are known as the "weight jacking" arms. They offer quick and easy ride height adjustment, and are used primarily in racing series where coil-overs are not permitted. They are available for stock style springs (suffix "S"), and also for linear rate racing springs that are 5" diameter top to bottom (suffix "F"). Like the 4500 series arms, they have heim joints at the front, polyurethane bushings at the back, and will require the "99-" suffix for '99 and later Mustangs. The 6000 series arms are aluminum with heim joints on both ends. They do not have spring perches, and only work with coil-overs. The EMCA 6000 is presently the only arm we offer for the early ('65 to '73) Mustangs. There are 2 versions available for the later cars. The drag race arm (suffix "D") bolts in to the stock mounting points. The World Challenge arm (suffix "WC") is 11" longer and bolts to the World Challenge frame kit, or to a bracket that must be welded in place. The torque boxes must also be removed to accommodate the longer "WC" arms. These arms have no provision for attaching the sway bar, so they often require a different spring rate be used on the rear.
