ARM KITS |
| Griggs Racing Products makes a wide variety of different TorqueArms. Selecting the proper TorqueArm for your car can be a little confusing. Hopefully this will make things a little easier.
We make TorqueArms to fit 3 types of cars. The most common is the '79 to present Mustang. These will have a part # starting with "MTA" for "Mustang TorqueArm". We also make TorqueArms for '83 -'88 Thunderbirds & Cougars, with the prefix "TTA" (Thunderbird TorqueArm). Recently we have developed a suspension for the classic '65-'73 Mustangs using a TorqueArm with the prefix "EMTA" (Early Mustang…). These of course will fit the Cougars of the same vintage. The main difference between these is the length of the arm.
TorqueArms with the part # 1000 fit 8.8" rear ends, and part # 9000 fits 9" rear ends.
TorqueArms are usually sold as a kit, including the front crossmember.
The TorqueArm crossmember bolts to mounting tabs that are welded to the subframe connectors. Generally the subframe connectors fall into one of 3 categories; Flat sided like ours (suffix "F"), Round (suffix "R"), and Global West's which are round but outboard of the frame rails, requiring a longer crossmember (suffix "G"). We also make one that welds to our subframe connectors (suffix "W"), that must be installed at the same time the subframe connectors are welded in. Less common is the kit we make for use with no subframe connectors (suffix "N"). This is actually more expensive and more difficult to install than the subframe connectors, so it is usually only used in racing classes where subframe connectors are prohibited.
If for some reason you need a replacement arm, but already have the crossmember, do not include any of the above suffixes.
There are 2 basic TorqueArms; Heavy Duty, and Severe Duty. The Heavy Duty TorqueArm is intended for street use on cars with under 400 hp. Of course if your car makes 350 hp, and you sidestep the clutch at every stoplight, you will probably bend or break it. For cars with over 400 hp, or cars with sticky tires that are drag raced, road raced, autocrossed, or similarly abused, we offer the Severe Duty TorqueArm. The main arm on this consists of 2 of the Heavy Duty arms welded side by side. For this reason many people refer to this as the "Double Wide" TorqueArm. Failure of this piece is extremely rare. The Severe Duty arm will have the suffix "S" after the part #.
If you have an aluminum cover on your 8.8" rear end, such as the one from TA or SVO, you will need to add a "T" to the suffix. Please note that the Severe Duty arm for an 8.8" is only made to work with this cover.
So, let's say you have a '98 Mustang that you road race, and it has our subframe connectors and an 8.8" rear end with a TA cover. You would use a part # MTA1000FST (which actually is our most popular part #).
