THE DEFINITION AS EXPLAINED BY BRUCE GRIGGS
A Harness is a multi-point restraint that holds the driver firmly in the seat during high-G cornering, braking, and impacts. Five-point harnesses use shoulder, lap, and a single sub belt; six-point harnesses split the sub into two anti-submarine straps. Harness mounting must conform to seat geometry — improper mounting angles cause spinal injury risk. SFI and FIA specifications govern harness construction, expiration, and mounting.
