Motion Ratio

THE DEFINITION AS EXPLAINED BY BRUCE GRIGGS

Motion Ratio is the relationship between wheel motion and spring or damper motion in a suspension system. A motion ratio of 0.7 means the spring compresses 0.7 inches for every 1 inch of wheel travel. Motion ratio determines wheel rate (the effective spring rate at the wheel) from the linear spring rate, and effective damping at the wheel from the damper’s specifications. Motion ratio analysis is essential for proper spring rate and damping selection.
