Weight Transfer is the dynamic redistribution of vertical load between tires that occurs during acceleration, braking, and cornering. Under braking, weight transfers forward; under acceleration, rearward; under cornering, to the outside wheels. Weight transfer affects tire grip because tire grip is non-linearly related to vertical load — a tire loaded twice as much does not produce twice the grip. Managing weight transfer is the core of chassis tuning.
