Loose

THE DEFINITION AS EXPLAINED BY BRUCE GRIGGS

Loose is the oval track term for oversteer, describing a car whose rear tires reach the limit of grip before the front tires and whose rear therefore steps out in a corner. Drivers distinguish where it occurs, since loose on entry, loose in the middle and loose off the corner point to different causes: entry is usually a braking, damping or rear geometry issue, mid-corner is usually roll couple distribution or roll steer, and loose off the corner points to power application, anti-squat or the differential. Its opposite is tight, the term for understeer. The remedies mirror the oversteer toolbox, that is, adding rear grip or reducing front grip through spring rates, anti-roll bar rates, alignment, cross weight, tire pressures or aerodynamic balance.
