A MacPherson Strut is a front suspension design that combines a damper and coil spring into a single structural unit that also serves as the upper steering and suspension pivot. The strut replaces the upper control arm of an SLA layout, simplifying packaging and reducing cost. The trade-off is unfavorable camber behavior under suspension travel — the wheel loses negative camber in jounce, reducing cornering grip.
