Rebound

Rebound is suspension movement in the extension direction, in which the wheel travels downward away from the chassis and the spring releases stored energy. It is the opposite of bump, and rebound damping is the damper force that resists it, controlling how quickly the spring returns the corner to ride height after a compression. Too little rebound damping lets the body oscillate and the tire skip after an input, while too much holds the suspension compressed through a series of bumps so that the wheel packs down and progressively loses travel and vertical load. Rebound damping also shapes transient response, because increasing it at one axle slows the rate at which load leaves that axle’s inside wheel and therefore affects how the car takes up load on turn-in.
