Wheelbase is the longitudinal distance between the front and rear wheel centers on the same side of the vehicle. It sets how much of the total weight each axle carries for a given center of gravity position, and it appears directly in the calculation of longitudinal load transfer under braking and acceleration, so a longer wheelbase transfers proportionally less weight for the same braking effort. Longer wheelbase also means a lower yaw rate for a given steering angle and slip angle, which makes the car more stable and less responsive to quick inputs. Left-to-right wheelbase differences are a corner-weighting and alignment concern, since unequal wheelbase makes the car behave differently turning left than turning right.
